Artist Statement
I am a painter whose work is rooted in the interplay of light and feeling. Abstract expressionism and the play of light are, to me, the essence of what art really is: light, and a feeling. Art should be enjoyed, because art is for everyone, both intimate and universal in its reach.
I work primarily in oils and textured mediums, building surfaces through a process that mirrors the inevitability of nature itself. My paintings emerge through this organic movement, reflecting the persistence of nature to exist, and my own drive to honor its force through color, gesture, and texture.
My influences span the atmospheric light of the Impressionists, their imperfect yet luminous colors, the emotional immediacy of Abstract Expressionism, and the dreamlike, otherworldly visions of Surrealism that excite the imagination and the avant-garde idea that art is meant to convey a feeling rather than record a subject. These voices in history inform my practice, but I reinterpret their spirit in a contemporary way, balancing the calm serenity of landscapes with the sense of adventure and wildness that calls to all of us.
Ultimately, my paintings are invitations to step into spaces that feel both familiar and otherworldly, to imagine beyond the canvas, and to experience nature not as static scenery but as a living, breathing force. I want to leave the viewer with a feeling of calm, but also with the sense of adventure of the wild outdoors, a reminder of our shared responsibility as stewards of the natural world.
